T-Bones Fall to the Goldeyes in Season Opener

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Winnipeg Goldeyes sent 14 batters to the plate and scored eight runs in the ninth in front of 6,009 to stage a comeback that secured a 10-4 win over the Kansas City T-Bones.

T-Bones starter Luis Villarreal pitched five shutout innings, allowing five hits while striking out four. The left-hander retired seven in-a-row at one point in his outing. Cody McAllister added two scoreless innings of his own while surrendering only two hits and striking out four. Neither would factor into the decision.

Craig Hurba hit a home run against Daniel Haigwood in the second inning to give the T-Bones an early 1-0 lead. Brad Correll added another run for Kansas City with an RBI double in the fifth, plating Aharon Eggleston who led off the frame with a single. Ryan Fox added two more with a double of his own against reliever Jordan Stewart to extend the T-Bones lead to four after five.

Todd Moser allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits and an error in the eighth as Winnipeg pulled within two. The Goldeyes then led off the ninth with five straight hits off closer David Trahan to tie the game at four. An RBI double by Dustin Richardson and RBI single by Brent Metheny plated the first two runs in the inning. Trahan left after surrendering another run when Cory Patton reached on a fielder's choice that scored Richardson. Andy Shipman entered for Trahan and gave up a three straight hits, including a three-run home run to Cody Ehlers, to push the total to 9-4.

Winnipeg added their final run on an RBI single by Josh Asanovich. Trahan suffered the loss after allowing six runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning. Andrew Cruse earned the victory after throwing a perfect eighth for the Goldeyes.

The two teams face-off again tomorrow as Justin James prepares to make his T-Bones debut against Bear Bay and Winnipeg. Single-game tickets for the T-Bones start at just $6.
