Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON, TX (Wednesday, April 15, 2009) - The Houston Dynamo will pay tribute to fallen Houston firefighters Captain James Harlow and Damion Hobbs at the Dynamo's Sunday game against the Colorado Rapids, which kicks off at 2:00 p.m.
Harlow and Hobbs were killed in the line of duty last weekend, and the Dynamo will honor them and their firefighting colleagues at Sunday's game, as firefighters from departments around the Houston area will be admitted free. A moment of silence will be observed before kickoff, and the Dynamo will wear HFD patches on their jerseys.
Those jerseys will be auctioned off during Saturday's game through Dynamo Charities, with the proceeds going to the Last Alarm Club. The Last Alarm Club was founded in 1977 by a group of concerned firefighters and friends to assist families of Houston firefighters killed in the line of duty.
Among the other tributes planned, the Dynamo will raise funds for the Last Alarm Club through a special ticket offer in which $5 from a $15 ticket will be donated in Harlow's and Hobbs' memory. Fans will be able to purchase these tickets by calling (713) 276-7500 or via HoustonDynamo.com, and the offer also extends to the Dynamo's May 9 game against FC Dallas.
"The Dynamo organization sends its condolences to the families of James Harlow and Damion Hobbs and to the Houston Fire Department," Dynamo Chief Operating Officer Chris Canetti said. "The entire community has been touched by this tragedy, and this is our small way of paying tribute to these fallen heroes and their colleagues whose dedication and commitment are so integral to our society. As a professional sports organization, we have a responsibility to be community-minded and a unique opportunity to make an impact. Our goal is to pay honor to Mr. Harlow, Mr. Hobbs, and the Houston Fire Department while raising some money for the Last Alarm Club."
