Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE (April 7, 2009) - The Milwaukee Wave is proud to announce the launch of the Milwaukee Wave Futsal Academy, at Elite Fitness and Racquet Club Northshore this summer.
Milwaukee Wave Head Coach Keith Tozer, the U.S. national futsal team coach since 1996, will direct campers in technical training, agility and core training, classroom work and game play. Sessions are June 29-July 3 and July 13-17 on the tennis courts at Elite.
Futsal is the FIFA-recognized version of indoor soccer. Played on a hard court approximately the size of a basketball court, there are four field players plus a keeper on each side. The United States team finished third at the CONCACAF Championships in 2008 and qualified for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil last October. The world's top teams are Brazil, Spain and Italy.
"We're very excited about starting the Milwaukee Wave Futsal Academy," Tozer said. "It's an area the Xtreme Soccer League wants to incorporate and it's a natural progression for the Milwaukee Wave, considering we have professional futsal players like Marcio Leite and Jonathan Santos and U.S. national team players like Nick Vorberg and Joe Hammes."
The Futsal Academy sessions are from 9 a.m. to noon five days a week, and tuition is $150. Register online by visiting milwaukeewave.com/camps/index.html, and clicking on the "Registration" link. To learn more about Milwaukee Wave camps, call 414-224-9283.
Founded last summer by the Milwaukee Wave, Detroit Ignition, New Jersey Ironmen and Chicago Storm, the Xtreme Soccer League is more than an indoor soccer league. The Xtreme Soccer Xperience is an energetic and innovative 12-month sports lifestyle brand built around skilled soccer professionals, entertainment and fan participation -- both live and online.
