Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Corridor Cup Update
With a win in Cedar Rapids Saturday, the Waterloo Black Hawks have swung ahead in the battle for the iWireless Corridor Cup. Waterloo's 3-2-1 record equates to a 7-6 edge in standings points from the series. One meeting remains on April 4th. The Hawks have now outscored Cedar Rapids 18-17. Saturday's 5-0 shutout by Parker Milner marked the first time the Black Hawks have blanked the Rough Riders in the regular season since a 1-0 win on February 5, 2005. Waterloo last won the Corridor Cup in the 2006-2007 season.
Moffie's Multi-Goal Moment
Lee Moffie scored twice in a 3-2 overtime win against Lincoln Friday. The only other time a Black Hawk defenseman has scored two goals in a game this season was a Patrick Wey effort on January 24th. Last year, Waterloo had five two-goal games from the defensive corps. However, the defensemen this season have made their goals count; five of their combined 22 goals have been game-winners.
Scoring Race
The Black Hawks have the second-most prolific offense in the USHL, trailing the Green Bay Gamblers by just one goal. Waterloo has scored 195 times in 49 games, while Green Bay has196 goals in 48 contests. The last time the Hawks led the USHL in scoring was a 221-tally effort in 2002-2003. Waterloo has only notched 200 goals in a season twice this decade (2002-2003 and 225 in 2006-2007).
Palmquist Participation
Zach Palmquist made his Black Hawk debut Saturday, registering an assist and a +1 rating in his first USHL game. Palmquist completed his high school season with South St. Paul earlier last week. He was the Packers' leading scorer with 15 goals and 25 assists in 27 games and has committed to Minnesota State-Mankato.
