New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The Pacific Coast League's New Orleans Zephyrs and the Southern League's Jacksonville Suns will play a one-time exhibition game in the inaugural Dixie Classic, presented by Dixie Egg Company, it was announced Monday.

The exhibition will take place on Thursday, April 2, at 7:05 p.m. at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Both teams are in their first season as an affiliate of the National League's Florida Marlins.

"For years I've tried to come up with a plan for a postseason Dixie Series like the one they had when I was a kid," Suns President Peter Bragan, Jr. said. "The opportunity to have New Orleans against Jacksonville is going to be a wonderful start."

During 2008, the Marlins Triple-A affiliate, the Albuquerque Isotopes, finished with a 68-75 record while the former Double-A affiliate Carolina Mudcats lost in the Southern League Championship Series after an 80-60 regular season.

"The Zephyrs organization is excited about our new affiliation with the Florida Marlins," New Orleans Zephyrs General Manager Mike Schline said. "Playing this game in Jacksonville is a great way for the two new affiliates to get acclimated with one another and for Suns fans to see players from throughout the organization."
