Round Rock, Austin Lyric Opera Team Up for Anthem Tryouts

ROUND ROCK - How high (or low) can your voice go?
The Round Rock Express and the Austin Lyric Opera will begin searching for Central Texas' strongest voices when they open up 2009 Express National Anthem tryouts at The Dell Diamond on Sunday, Feb. 15 and Thursday, Feb. 19.
Participants in the tryouts will be vying for a chance to sing the National Anthem during one of Round Rock's 10th Anniversary Season home games in 2009. To make sure the best of the best are selected, General Director of the Austin Lyric Opera, Kevin Patterson, will sit on this year's judging panel.
"I am thrilled to be a part of these auditions. I am simply fanatical when it comes to baseball and have been since I was a little boy. Being able to help the Round Rock Express judge these auditions will be great fun," Patterson said.
Patterson joined the Austin Lyric Opera in 2007 and has worked with opera companies on the regional and national levels including The Lyric Opera of Chicago, Santa Fe Opera, Palm Beach Opera, New Orleans Opera and Opera Grand Rapids. He also served as an artistic advisor to Asheville Lyric Opera. Patterson has lectured on the impact of information technology on the opera industry and has authored numerous related articles for Opera America's publication NewsLine.
Patterson, Director of Ballpark Entertainment Clint Musslewhite and members of the Express front office will help select singers for the 2009 season. Instruments are welcome, but all singers must perform a capella. Performances should be limited to 90 seconds.

Both tryout sessions will be held on the field of The Dell Diamond, located at 3400 E. Palm Valley in Round Rock. Please print out and complete the required form before arriving for tryouts.
Sunday, February 15 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Thursday, February 19 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
