Columbus Recalls Dan LaCosta; Crunch Sign Kris Mayotte

Syracuse, NY (January 8, 2009) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have added goaltender Dan LaCosta to their roster on emergency recall. In addition, the Crunch have signed goaltender Kris Mayotte to a professional tryout contract.

LaCosta, 22, has appeared in 28 games for the Crunch this season, going 12-11-2 with a 2.72 goals against average and .914 save percentage. He has also skated in one game with Columbus this year, playing 35 minutes in relief of Fredrik Norrena on October 18 in Nashville, allowing two goals on 19 shots. A native of Labrador City, Newfoundland, LaCosta was drafted by Columbus in the third round, 93rd overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Mayotte, 25, has appeared in 22 games for Johnstown (ECHL) this season, going 14-5-2 with a 2.68 goals against average and .913 save percentage. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mayotte was signed by Johnstown as a free agent on September 16, 2008.

The Crunch's next game is Friday, January 9 as they travel to Rochester to battle the Americans. The Crunch return home on January 16 as they take on the Albany River Rats at the War Memorial at Oncenter at 7:30 p.m.
