Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

HOUSTON -- Luis Pujols, Stan Boroski, Keith Bodie and Jamey Snodgrass comprise the Corpus Christi Hooks field staff for 2009, Houston Astros Assistant General Manager Ricky Bennett announced Wednesday.

Bodie, the lone new member of the group, was named Corpus Christi hitting coach after a season at High-A Salem (Virginia) of the Carolina League. He succeeds John Tamargo, Jr.

"We are excited to have Luis, Stan and Jamey back," Hooks President Ken Schrom said. "And, we look forward to welcoming Keith into the Ryan Sanders Baseball family."

Pujols is the second field boss in Hooks history. He was named manager on December 11, 2007, in the wake of Dave Clark's promotion to Triple-A Round Rock. Clark, Corpus Christi's original manager, was recently named third base coach of the Astros.

Pujols came with 22 years of major league experience as a player, coach and manager. He served on coaching staffs at Montreal (1993-2000) and San Francisco (2003-06) and as Detroit's interim manager in 2002. Pujols is the second Dominican-born skipper in MLB history (Felipe Alou). Overall, he has coached or managed professionally for 21 seasons.

Pujols played pro ball, primarily as a catcher, for 15 years after signing with the Astros as a 17-year-old in January of 1973.

Boroski enters his 14th campaign as a pitching coach in the Astros system. The Ohio native joined the Hooks in 2007 from Salem, where he spent four years. Boroski has served as a coach and scout in the Houston organization since 1991. He's mentored Hooks standouts Chance Douglass, Brian Gordon, Brad James, Josh Muecke, Kyle Middleton, Bud Norris, Troy Patton and Felipe Paulino.

Bodie has 14 seasons of managerial experience at the minor league level. He ran Wichita's Texas League club from 2000-03. A third-round selection of the Mets in the 1974 draft, Bodie played for nine years in the Mets and Astros organizations. He has worked in player development since 1983 for the Astros, Giants, Royals and Nationals.

Snodgrass is original equipment with the Hooks. The 2005 Texas League Trainer of the Year returns to the Sparkling City for a fifth run. 2009 marks Snodgrass' 11th year as an athletic trainer in the Astros chain, his seventh in Double-A. He is the only person to witness all 566 Hooks games.
