Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-Slumberland Furniture will boost the Waterloo Black Hawks philanthropic efforts during the 2008-2009 season with sponsorship of the Slumberland Furniture Fan's Choice Player of the Year Award and voting. This season marks the third year of the partnership, which has raised approximately $4,600 over two seasons for various non-profit organizations in the Cedar Valley.
"Slumberland's involvement in this effort is yet another example of responsible corporate citizenship in the Cedar Valley," said Black Hawks' Corporate Sales Director Clint Rowe. "We are very pleased to have partners like Slumberland for the Waterloo Black Hawks Foundation."
The Slumberland Furniture Fan's Choice Player of the Year Award will be presented during the Waterloo Black Hawks' Awards Banquet in April. Fans can vote for their favorite player by bringing a contribution to the voting box above Section D during each Black Hawk home game. The player drawing the largest value of contributions will be named the winner. Last season, fans voted Brock Montpetit their Player of the Year. The inaugural award was presented to Josh Turnbull following the 2006-2007 season.
In 2007-2008, $1,680 from voting was divided among Adopt-A-Family, Alternatives Pregnancy Center, and the Cedar Bend Humaine Society, with each organization receiving $560.
The Black Hawks play their first home game at Young Arena on Saturday, October 18th against the Omaha Lancers at 7pm.
