
McEachron Gets Fired

RICHMOND, VA - (Friday, August 22, 2008) - The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce USL-2 All-League Second Team defender Trevor McEachron will join the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer, on loan, for their international friendly against Mexican side Veracruz of the Primera Division 'A' on Sunday, August 24th. The match is slated to kickoff at 4 p.m. CT, at Estadio Luis "Pirata" Fuente in Veracruz, Mexico.
McEachron made a mid-season return to the Kickers squad in 2008, immediately earning USL-2 Player of the Week honors after leading the team to a 1-0 upset over Charlotte in May. Taking USL-2 Team of the Week honors twice additionally, the defensive stalwart played every minute of 17 games played while contributing to eight shutouts overall. Doubling as an offensive threat, McEachron added a goal and an assist during the Kickers 4-1 victory over Bermuda on June 14th and in the 5-0 win over Crystal Palace Baltimore on August 9th, respectively. In his third professional season, McEachron has taken All-League honors for the first time.
In 2007, the Woodbridge, Virginia native played every minute of all but one game during the regular season, contributing to nine shutouts. He also registered a goal and an assist on the season and garnered USL-2 team of the Week honors consecutively on June 5th and June 12th. During his rookie season, McEachron appeared in all but one game, becoming a regular on the Kickers back line mid-season.
The 2003 CAA Defender of the year was an integral component of the Old Dominion University defense that did not allow a goal for the first nine games in 2003, and garnered NSCAA All-American First Team, All-CAA First Team, VaSID All-State First Team and College Soccer News All-American First Team honors.
The Chicago Fire currently resides in second place in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 10-6-5 and 35 points and will travel to Mexico following their match at Los Angeles on Thursday, August 21st. Veracruz is currently 2-0-1 and in third place in Group 3 of the Primera Division 'A' 2008 Apertura (fall season). The Red Sharks have a game on August 16th and 23rd prior to Sunday's match-up. Fire midfielder Cuauhtémoc Blanco played with the two-time Mexican League champion in the 2004 Apertura scoring five goals in 15 games. Veracruz was relegated to the Mexican second division this May following the 2008 Clausura (spring season).
