
Marco Estrada 51st Former Vermont Player To Reach Majors

BURLINGTON, VT --- The Washington Nationals on Tuesday purchased the contract of pitcher Marco Estrada from Triple-A Columbus, making Estrada the 51th former member of the Vermont Lake Monsters organization to reach the Major Leagues.
Estrada pitched for the then Vermont Expos in 2005, going 1-3 with a 5.08 ERA in nine games (six starts). The right-hander, who was the Nationals selected in the fifth round of 2005 Draft out of Long Beach State University, allowed 21 runs (19 earned) on 31 hits with 16 walks and 37 strikeouts over 33.2 innings for the Expos.
After pitching Single-A baseball in 2006 and 2007, Estrada is a combined 9-6 with a 3.16 ERA in 13 starts at Double-A Harrisburg and 12 starts at Triple-A Columbus. He has walked 43 and struckout 119 over 139 2/3 innings in his 25 starts.
While the 51st former Vermont player to reach the Major Leagues all-time, Estrada is the 16th to play in the majors during the 2008 season.
