Rochester Knighthawks News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Knighthawks announced today that the club has signed defenseman Troy Bonterre to a three-year deal.

The Knighthawks acquired Bonterre in a three-player trade with the Edmonton Rush which sent forwards Lindsay Plunkett and Matt Brown to Edmonton. The pair of forwards were originally drafted by Rochester in the NLL dispersal draft of the former Arizona Sting franchise.

The trade also gave Rochester a third-round pick in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft and the option for future considerations.

Bonterre comes to Rochester after completing the 2008 season with the Rush where he collected one assist, 20 loose balls and 18 penalty minutes (PIM) in 10 games.

Prior to his one-year stint in Edmonton, the Owen Sound, Ontario, native spent back-to-back seasons (2006-07) with the Buffalo Bandits, registering two points (0+2), 92 PIM and 32 loose balls in 15 total games.

Bonterre made his professional lacrosse debut during the 2005 season with the Arizona Sting, posting career highs with three points (0+3), 36 loose balls and six shots.

In other news, Rochester will remain in the seven-team Eastern Conference this season along with Chicago, Buffalo, Toronto, New York, and Philadelphia. The league's newest franchise, the Boston Blazers, will also join the East while the Minnesota Swarm will make their transition to the Western Conference, joining San Jose, Calgary, Colorado, Portland and Edmonton to expand the league to 13 teams.

The playoff format remains the same, with the top four teams in each division advancing to the 2009 NLL playoffs.
