Published on July 7, 2008 under Carolina League (CarL1) News Release

WOODBRIDGE, Va.- The Potomac Nationals can add another achievement to their already successful season as today Marvin Lowrance was named the Carolina League's Offensive Player of the Week for June 30-July 6. The slugger joins former P-Nats Jordan Zimmermann and Edgardo Baez who also earned weekly honors earlier this season.

Lowrance torched Carolina League pitchers over a five-game stretch going 9-for-19 (.474) with five home runs, three walks, and 11 RBI and raised his average from .242 to .260 over that span. The 23-year-old also scored eight times and posted a 1.263 slugging percentage. His week was highlighted on June 30 against Kinston when he went 3-5 with two home runs and recorded a season-high five RBI. Lowrance's offensive uprising comes after a sluggish June where he hit just .214, but he has responded with a .429 start to July.

The 2008 season marks the California-native's third tour with the Potomac Nationals. He played the majority of the 2007 season with Potomac leading the team in home runs (16), RBI (51), and walks (61) even with being sent down to Low-A Hagerstown. A former seventh-round pick by the Montreal Expos in 2004, Lowrance spent all of the 2006 season with the P-Nats hitting .257 with five home runs and 48 RBI in 112 games.

The Potomac Nationals will conclude their three-game set against the Salem Avalanche with a doubleheader Monday night at Pfitzner Stadium. Monday is also Washington Post Dollar Monday as fans can purchase grandstand tickets and hot dogs for just one dollar. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and both games will be seven innings.
