River City Rascals News Release
Marion, IL - In a match-up of two Frontier League West All-Stars on the mound, Chris Little shined a little brighter as the Southern Illinois Miners shutout the Rascals 2-0 Friday night at Rent One Park.
Scott Fogelson (2-4) went seven strong innings, allowing two runs, but got saddled with the loss after the Rascals left seven men on base through the night.
The Miners got to Fogelson in the fourth and sixth innings. In both innings, Tony Roth led off with a hit. Roth singled in the fourth and doubled in the sixth. Knocking in the Miners runs were Joey Metropoulos with an infield single and Brad Miller with a drive to left.
River City, trailing 2-0, had its best chance to score in the eighth inning off Little. Greg Stone singled and Luke Barganier doubled to put runners at second and third with nobody out. Griffen Bailey replaced Little and the right-hander got out of the inning on a fielder's choice at home and a 1-6-3 double play.
Bailey worked around trouble again in the ninth when the Rascals stranded two. Little (5-1) went seven innings with seven strikeouts for the win. Bailey notched his first save of the season.
River City (21-22) and Southern Illinois (23-20) will play game two of the series Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Catch the Rascals while their on the road by tuning into FM 104.5 KLSQ.
