Newark Bears News Release
NEWARK, NJ - The 2007 Atlantic League Champion Newark Bears announced today that outfielder Val Majewski's contract was purchased by the Houston Astros organization.
While with the Bears, Majewski proved to be an indispensable part of the Bears' formidable lineup. Batting .368, he held the fifth-highest batting average in the Atlantic League and with 47 RBI, he was second only to fellow Bear Cory Aldridge in league RBI leaders. Boasting an impressive .437 on-base percentage, Majewski had reached base safely in 23 consecutive games before getting picked up. Along with Ramon Castro, Majewski led the team with eight home runs. During his tenure with the Bears, Majewski had 21 multi-hit games and collected multiple RBI in 16 games.
"We are extremely happy for Val," said Assistant General Manager of Baseball Operations Jim Cerny. "Not only was he an excellent player, he also was a model citizen and a pleasure to have representing our organization."
Majewski will be reporting to the Corpus Christi Hooks, the Houston Astros' Double-A affiliate.
