TAMPA, F.L. (June 1, 2008) - Fort Myers Miracle starter Tyler Robertson went the distance on a warm Sunday afternoon in Tampa as his complete game led the Miracle to a 6-1 win over the Tampa Yankees at Steinbrenner Field. The Miracle offense did their usual damage with a dozen hits behind Robertson nine innings where he allowed the one run on five hits, with a walk and five strikeouts in his fourth win of the season. The Miracle increase their season-high win streak to seven while closing in on the first-half division crown with the magic number now at eight.
A fast four-spot in the top of the first jolted the Miracle out to 4-0 lead. Brian Dinkelman and Edward Ovalle got the ball rolling with back-to-back base hits, before Danny Valencia's walk loaded the bases for Whit Robbins. Robbins quickly brought in Dinkelman with his sacrifice-fly center for the first run of the afternoon. The hot bat of Wilson Ramos followed with a two-run double to center, before Danny Santiestiban plated Ramos with his own RBI-double to left for the four-run advantage.
A pair of runs two innings later in the third advanced the Miracle to 6-0 advantage as three-straight one-out singles by Ramos, Eli Tintor and Santiestiban put the Miracle up by five. Yancarlos Ortiz would then leg out a double-play ball later in the inning, receiving an RBI for his efforts, on a fielder's choice and a Miracle lead by a half-dozen.
Tampa appeared on the scoreboard briefly in the fifth as a lead-off home run by Josue Calzado, his fourth of the season, cut into the final score at 6-1. Robertson never allowed a multi-hit inning to Tampa as his control was on point all day long. The five hits he gave up were the only five baseball's to leave the infield on Sunday afternoon.
Fresh off of a three-game sweep in Tampa and a perfect 4-0 road trip, the Miracle return home to Hammond Stadium on Monday night cranking up a three-game series against the Dunedin Blue Jays. RHP Cole Devries (4-4, 3.70) will throw out the first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
Monday is another Nick and Stella's Sports Pub "Miracle Monday Club" night as well as the first "cheaper by the gallon" promotion. On every Monday home game, the lowest price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline offered in South Fort Myers, will equal the cost of a box seat ticket for that night's game.
