FORT MYERS, F.L. (May 14, 2008) - An RBI-double from Whit Robbins in the bottom of the sixth broke a 3-3 tie as the Fort Myers Miracle picked up their second-straight win over the Sarasota Reds with a 5-3 victory on Wednesday night. An "Islands Night" crowd of 3,628 at Hammond Stadium saw the Miracle increase their west division lead to two, setting the stage for a big three-game series with second-place Tampa starting Thursday night.

Danny Valencia continued his offensive dominance with his team-leading fifth home run of the season in the first, a two-run no doubter to left, for a fast two-run Miracle lead. Valencia's ground out two innings later in the third brought in Rene Tosoni, who tripled to lead off, putting the Miracle up by three.

Sarasota put up single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings to tie the contest at three making things interesting on Wednesday night. After an Eddy Rodriguez single to left, Mike DeJesus' RBI-double got the Reds on the board, trimming the Miracle lead to 3-1. Jose Castro delivered an RBI-double in the Reds fifth bringing them to within one, before Drew Stubbs' second blast of the season, a solo-shot to left, squared the game up at three apiece.

Juan Portes led off the Miracle sixth with a single to left, and on a hit-and-run, came around on Robbins' double down to left-field line putting the Miracle back up one. Insurance in the form on Robbins coming around on Tosoni single four hitters later, gave the Miracle their final 5-3 margin of the night.

The Miracle pitching trio of Alex Burnett, Jose Lugo and Rob Delaney combined to hold the Sarasota bats at bay in the win. Burnett scored the victory by tossing six innings, allowing three runs on nine hits and striking out two. Rob Delaney retired all four batters he faced, striking out the side in the ninth, for his team-leading ninth save of the year.

A three-game showdown between the first-place Miracle and second-place Tampa Yankees begins on Thursday night at Hammond Stadium beginning at 7:05 p.m. The Miracle send LHP Tyler Robertson (1-2, 3.47) to the hill against the Yanks RHP Ivan Nova (2-5, 4.31). Thursday's contest can be heard on the Miracle Baseball Radio Network, WMYR AM-1410 and WCNZ AM-1660, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:50 p.m.

Thursday will feature another "Thursty Thursday" at the ball park sponsored by Stevie Tomato's Sports Page, Bud Light, 96 K-Rock, 99x and Sportsradio 770.
