Sacramento River Cats News Release
Oakland A's infielder Eric Chavez is scheduled to begin his Major League Rehabilitation assignment for the River Cats on Thursday, May 15, against the Salt Lake Bees (Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) at Raley Field.
Chavez was placed on the 15-day DL on March 25 and was transferred to the 60-day DL on April 24 after offseason back surgery. This marks the first time the six-time Gold Glove Award winner has played in a River Cats uniform at Raley Field. Chavez rehabbed for the River Cats in 2004, but played all games on the road in Fresno.
The 30-year-old is in his 10th season as a member of the Athletics and is a career .269 hitter with 227 career home runs and 762 RBIs. Chavez has finished in the Top 30 of American League Most Valuable Player voting four times.
Tickets are still available for this weekend.
