Mobile BayBears News Release
MOBILE, Ala. - A five-run first inning made life difficult for the BayBears in an 8-4 loss to the Jacksonville Suns on Mother's Day at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Juan Gonzalez put a crooked number on the board first for the Suns (17-20) with his two-run homer off starter Tony Barnette (2-5). After Lucas May was hit by a pitch, Shane Justis doubled to make it 3-0 Jacksonville. An RBI double by Bobby Malek and an RBI single by Aldolfo Gonzalez buried the BayBears into an even deeper hole.
Greg Jacobs homered in the second to put the Suns up by a half-dozen, but the BayBears began to battle back in the bottom of the third as Chris Rahl singled home Barnette. Rahl, however, was thrown out trying to stretch that hit into a double, ending the frame. In the bottom of the fourth, Bryan Bryne laced a homer to right-center off James McDonald (2-1), who worked six solid innings for the Suns.
Forrest Cory entered the contest in the seventh and let two more runs come home for Jacksonville as Jacobs singled home Jamie Hoffman, who reached on an error, while Russell Mitchell picked up a sac fly to make it 8-2. John Hester finished the scoring in the bottom of the ninth with an opposite-field, two-run shot against Brent Leach.
Tomorrow night, the homestand continues for the BayBears as they lock up with the Suns at 7:05 p.m. Hector Ambriz (2-4, 4.28) gets the ball for the BayBears against Dodgers top prospect Clayton Kershaw (0-3, 1.08). Call (251) 479-BEAR for tickets or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
