
Suns Offense Explodes Early for Sunday Win

MOBILE, Ala. - The Jacksonville Suns (17-20) sent all nine hitters to the plate in the first inning, scoring five times, while holding on late for an 8-4 Sunday evening victory over the Mobile BayBears (17-20) in front of 2,239 at Hank Aaron Stadium.
The win moved Jacksonville back into a tie with Mobile for second place in the South Division, three games behind first place Birmingham.
Suns starter James McDonald (2-1) picked up the win after allowing two runs on six hits over six innings. The right-hander walked one with seven strikeouts. BayBears starter Tony Barnette (2-5) fell in the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits over six innings.
Jacksonville's offense started the scoring right away in the first inning against Mobile starter Tony Barnette. Following a Jamie Hoffmann strikeout, Juan Gonzalez belted a two-run homerun for a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning with two out Shane Justis doubled home Lucas May for a 3-0 Suns advantage. Bobby Malek next doubled home Justis with Aldolfo Gonzalez singling home Malek for a 5-0 lead. All nine Jacksonville batters came up in the first, with five runs on five hits.
The Suns kept the pressure on Barnette in the second inning when Greg Jacobs belted his fourth homerun for a 6-0 lead.
Mobile got on the board against Suns starter James McDonald in the third inning with a Chris Rahl RBI single, cutting the Suns lead to 6-1. The BayBears scored another run in the fourth inning off of a Bryan Byrne homerun making it a 6-2 game.
The Suns scored two more runs in the seventh inning against reliever Forrest Cory, one on a Greg Jacobs RBI single and the second on a Russell Mitchell sacrifice fly for an 8-2 lead.
Mobile ended the scoring in the last of the ninth inning as John Hester hit a two-run homerun off of Suns reliever Brent Leach for an 8-4 final.
