Bond Extends Hit Streak to 19 Games in Jackets Loss

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (20-17) split their four game series with the Columbus Catfish (16-20) on Saturday night with a 9-1 loss. Starter Steven Calicutt suffered the loss allowing five runs in six innings and Andrew Davis drove in the only run of the game for Augusta.

Columbus set the tone of the game in the first inning with four runs scored for an early 4-0 lead. Greg Sexton connected for an RBI single then Stephen Vogt followed with a two-run double for a 3-0 lead. Mike McCormick then reached on a fielding error by Davis at third base allowing the fourth run to score.

The Catfish added another run in the second on Sexton's second RBI single of the game for a 5-0 lead.

Calicutt (2-2) allowed six hits and one walk in his shortest outing of the season.

Columbus plated three runs in the third inning off of reliever Orlando Yntema for an 8-0 lead. Henry Wrigley had an RBI triple then Seth Dhaenens followed with an RBI sac-fly to center. Shawn Williams capped off the scoring in the frame with an RBI base hit.

The GreenJackets broke up the shutout in the fourth inning when Davis connected for an RBI double scoring Angel Villalona from second base.

The Catfish made it 9-1 in the fifth inning on another RBI single from Williams who finished the night 5-for-5.

The GreenJackets are off on Sunday then begin an eight game road trip Monday night in Rome, GA against the Braves. Left-hander Madison Bumgarner (3-2, 3.21) makes the start for Augusta Monday night while the Braves will counter with lefty Jeff Locke (1-3, 5.19). First pitch is at 7:00 p.m.

Game Notes:

Augusta finished the eight game home stand 6-2.

Brock Bond extended his hit streak to 19 games with a single in the third inning.

Andrew De La Garza and Joe Paterson combined for 4.1 shutout innings in relief for Augusta.

Brian Flores (2-1) recorded the win for Columbus with five innings pitched and one run on six hits. The lefty struck out seven and walked two.
