Albany Firebirds News Release

ALBANY, NY - The Albany Conquest announced today that tight end/offensive lineman Jacob Hobbs has been invited to participate in a three-day NFL Rookie/Free Agent minicamp this weekend with the New York Giants. Hobbs will not be available for this Thursday's road game against the Daytona Beach ThunderBirds.

Hobbs, 25, is in his first season of af2 action after being a three-year starter at left tackle for the University of Albany. The Schenectady, NY native, who earned Second-Team All-State honors as a senior defensive end at Schenectady High School, signed as an undrafted rookie free agent with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles in May of 2007 and attended the Eagles 2007 training camp. Hobbs also signed on with the AFL's Columbus Destroyers in November 2007, but was waived on February 24th, 2008. During his senior season at UAlbany, Hobbs earned Football Gazette Second-Team Mid-Major All-America honors and was named to the First-Team All-Northeast Conference.

"I am excited for Jacob to get this opportunity," said Conquest Head Coach and Director of Football operations Jeff Hoffman. "He has worked hard for us. I hope he makes the most of this opportunity and sticks with the Giants."

Hobbs, who had three catches for 32 yards in three games for Albany this season, will leave Thursday, May 8th to report to the Giants Training Facility for their three-day workout Friday, May 9th to Sunday, May 11th. At the conclusion of the minicamp, Hobbs will either sign with the Giants or return to the Conquest for practice in preparation of their Week 8 trip to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday, May 16th.

Hobbs is the second Albany Conquest player this season to be invited to an NFL Rookie/Free Agent minicamp. Last weekend the Conquest were without their leading wide receiver, Antwun Williams, who was attending the New York Jets minicamp. Williams has since returned to the Conquest and will be with the team for their road game against Daytona Beach this week.

The Conquest will have to endure the short week as they travel to Florida for their first even game against the expansion Daytona Beach Thunderbirds on Thursday, May 8th at 7:00 pm. Albany's next home game will come in Week 9 as they host the Manchester Wolves on Friday, May 23rd at 7:00 pm at the Times Union Center.

Partial season ticket packages and single game tickets are now on sale for the 2008 Albany Conquest regular season. For more information please contact the Conquest at (518) 487-2244 or online at www.albanyconquest.com.
