Rattlers To Retire Randy Gatewood's Number 17

PHOENIX - The playoff guaranteed Rattlers announce that they will retire the number 17 of former Arizona Rattler receiver Randy Gatewood at the halftime of their game against the San Jose SaberCats, Friday May 9, 2008.
Gatewood is revered as one of the best two-way players in the Arena Football League history, earning the AFL Ironman award in 2003 and 2006. Gatewood, who played with the Rattlers for 12 straight seasons, leads the team all time in reception yards, touchdowns, total tackles and unassisted tackles and is second in total receptions.
In 149 games, Gatewood's 689 receptions were good for a total of 8999 yards and a 13.1-yard per catch average. His 689 receptions places him number 14 all time in Arena League history. With 221 touchdowns totaling 1331 points, he ranks 10th all time in the Arena League. On defense, Gatewood amassed 427 total tackles with 371 coming unassisted, placing him 19th all time in the Arena League.
The 2008 Arizona Rattlers have guaranteed their season ticket holders a trip to the playoffs.
