Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA -- The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, will welcome the U.S.A. Military All-Stars for an Exhibition Game on Thursday, May 15th, 7:05pm at CONSOL Energy Park.
Now in their 19th season, the Red, White, and Blue Tour of America promotes the âawareness of Americans in support of the honorable sacrifices our armed forces make at the Tip of the Spear.' Since post Vietnam over 21,500 active duty and reserve personnel have participated in the popular summer exhibition. This fun family event annually attracts over 25 million people. The U.S.A. Military All-Stars are comprised of Active Duty, Reserve, and Veterans who participate while off-duty.
For many players, baseball is a smooth transition to the team environment they experienced as members of the United States Military. It has also allowed players to advance their baseball careers. Former U.S.A. Military All-Star, Cooper Brannan, was featured in Sports Illustrated on May 3, 2008. After two tours of duty in Iraq and loosing his left pinky finger, Brannan, began pitching for the U.S.A. Military and All-Marine Corps All-Star teams. In February 2007, Cooper signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres.
"We're excited for the opportunity to play the US Military All-Stars," said John Swiatek, the Wild Things' managing partner. "They play throughout the world, and it's going to be a fun night for baseball fans. It's going to be a great way to kick off the 2008 season, and it is also for a good cause, with proceeds benefiting area veteran's charities."
Proceeds from the evening will be donated to area veteran's charities, including the Fischer House. The Wild Things will donate $3.00 from each regularly priced ticket and $1.00 for each discounted ticket to the cause. Members of the military (active, veteran, and reserves) will receive a $2.00 discount on tickets.
The U.S.A. Military All-Stars exhibition game will offer fans the first opportunity of the season to see the 2008 squad.
The Wild Things begin their 2008 campaign on the road, and will open at home May 24th. Tickets for all 2008 games are available at the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office.
