Miners Announce Preseason Events Schedule

MARION, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Miners have scheduled preseason games as well as a week's worth of festivities leading up to the May 24 home opener at Rent One Park. Proceeds from many of the preseason events will help to benefit Miners charities.
"We have a lot of fun events planned for our fans in the area," Miners General Manager Tim Arseneau said. "In addition to preseason games in May, we really have something for everyone in the week leading up to Opening Day."
The Miners will start the preseason schedule against the Gary SouthShore RailCats at Rent One Park at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, May 10. The RailCats are the 2007 champions of the independent Northern League. Club seats will be $8, and box seats will be $6 with reserved seats available for $4 and lawn seats priced at just $2. Gates will open at 6 p.m.
The following Saturday, May 17, the Miners will take on the Evansville Otters in a preseason game at Brooks Stadium in Paducah. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Tickets for the game against Gary and the game in Paducah will be available at Rent One Park starting Saturday, May 3.
Also on May 17 will be the inaugural Miners 5K Home Run Challenge. The race begins at 7:30 a.m. at the stadium and is open to runners and walkers. Registration is $20 for anyone 12 or older and $15 for runners under 12, and all participants will receive a free dry fit T-shirt.
The festivities continue on Sunday, May 18 with Miners Fan Fest from 3-5 p.m. at Rent One Park. Fans will have the chance to watch the team practice and then meet the players.
The Miners Inaugural Golf Scramble will take place at Kokopelli Golf Club in Marion at 9 a.m. Monday, May 19. Registration is $300 for a team of three golfers. Each team will play with a Miners player or coach. The price includes 18 holes of golf, a golf shirt, a goodie bag and lunch at Rent One Park.
Tuesday, the team will host a softball game on the Rent One Park field for all local media members to participate. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
The team is offering fans a bus trip to Sauget, Ill. on Wednesday, May 21 to watch the Miners open the regular season on the road against the Gateway Grizzlies. The bus will depart from Rent One Park at 4:30 p.m. and return shortly after the game. McAllister's Deli will provide food on the bus. The price is $45 for each bus rider, and seating is limited to the first 50 fans.
On Friday, May 24 the team will have Movie Night at Rent One Park. Admission is $2, and fans can watch "Field of Dreams" on the video board beginning at 7:30 p.m. Fans can bring a blanket to sit on the field, and the concession stand will also be open.
