
Padres Claim Josh Banks, Option To Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - The San Diego Padres announced today that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Josh Banks off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays and have assigned him to Portland. Additionally, the Beavers announced today that left-handed pitcher Arturo Lopez has been loaned to Mexico City of the Triple-A Mexican League.
Banks, 25, has a career 50-44 minor league record with a 4.23 ERA in 130 games (129 starts) over parts of six seasons in the Blue Jays organization. He is 0-2 with a 7.02 ERA (13er, 16.2ip) in three starts this season for Triple-A Syracuse.
The right-hander made his major league debut in 2007 with the Blue Jays, posting a 7.36 ERA (6er, 7.1ip) in three outings (1 start).
Lopez, 25, is 0-3 with a 13.14 ERA (18er, 12.1ip) in three starts with Portland to begin the season. The left-hander spent parts of the 2006 and 2007 campaigns with Mexico City, going 3-5 with a 7.93 ERA in 30 appearances (7 starts).
The Beavers' active roster remains at its 24-man limit.
