THE SAN JOSE GIANTS...continue their road trip on Tuesday night with the first of three straight games against the Stockton Ports at Banner Island Ballpark. The Giants have won nine out of their last 10 games after sweeping four contests at Visalia in their most recent series. San Jose boasts the top record in the California League at 13-5, but currently sit just one game ahead of the Ports (12-6) in the North Division race.

California League Leaders...San Jose Giants pitchers have their names all over the California League leaderboard heading into Tuesday's action. All five starting hurlers rank in the top 8 in ERA headlined by left-hander Ben Snyder (2nd, 0.78). Kevin Pucetas (4th, 1.57), Clayton Tanner (6th, 1.66), Tim Alderson (7th, 1.69), and Jesse English (8th, 1.84) also rank among the top pitchers in the league. Out of the bullpen, Taylor Wilding has logged three saves - tied for third-most in the California League. As a pitching staff, the Giants pace the league with a sparkling 2.45 ERA.

Match-Up Of Top Prospects...Tuesday's starting pitching match-up features the top two pitching prospects in the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics organizations according to Baseball America. For the Giants, Alderson will get the ball in search of his third win of the season. The 19-year old right-hander was a first round draft pick last June and garnered the #2 prospect ranking (#1 pitcher) in the San Francisco farm system from Baseball America at the start of the season. Trevor Cahill is expected to make the start on the mound for Stockton. Cahill, who leads the league with a 0.50 ERA (1 ER/18.0 IP), was drafted in the second round by Oakland in 2006. He is rated the #2 overall prospect (#1 pitcher) in the Athletics' organization by Baseball America. The two pitchers squared off last Wednesday in San Jose with the Ports winning the contest, 3-0.

Running Wild...The Giants have been very aggressive on the base paths this season, including a huge series at Visalia last weekend. During the four-game set, San Jose stole 14 bases as a team and now lead the league with 34 swiped bags. Individually, outfielder Tyler Graham is tied for the top mark in the California League with 13 stolen bases in 14 attempts. Graham was a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen base attempts versus the Oaks. Outfielder Mike McBryde (6) and second baseman Matt Downs (5) have also started hot on the base paths.

Pablo Sandoval...Catcher Pablo Sandoval has jumped out to a huge start offensively in 2008. The 21-year old backstop leads the California League in several offensive categories including: batting average (.444), slugging percentage (.870), and extra-base hits (13). He's also second in RBI (18), second in on-base percentage (.500), tied for second in doubles (8), and tied for third in home runs (5).

Stockton Ports...The Ports, an affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, enter the series with a five-game winning streak. Stockton blasted Rancho Cucamonga last weekend taking all four contests in the series. The Ports scored a total of 45 runs over the final three games. Stockton is second to the Giants in team ERA at 3.38, but the pitching staff has struck out a league-high 197 batters through just 18 games. Offensively, the Ports are fourth in batting average (.273) and first in home runs (22). First baseman/DH Chris Carter, acquired via trade by Oakland last offseason, has smoked four home runs in his last two games. Former first round draft pick Sean Doolittle (.319, 6 HR, 19 RBI) is also off to a strong start this season. Stockton dropped two-of-three games at San Jose last week at Municipal Stadium in their first meetings of the year.
