Potomac Nationals News Release
WOODBRIDGE, Va.-The Potomac Nationals want to give back to their fans in 2008 by giving them something every time they come to the ballpark. The club is planning on getting off to a hot start out of the gate in April with several giveaways and special nights.
The P-Nats celebrate Opening Day at Pfitzner Stadium on April 8 against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The United States Army Military District of Washington (MDW) will be performing an Armed Forces Color Guard Ceremony and Corey Stewart, Chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, will be throwing out the first pitch.
The first weekend home stand is packed with giveaways and special events. The first giveaway will be magnetic schedules sponsored by the Potomac News and Manassas Journal Messenger on April 11 and 12.
"The Potomac News and Manassas Journal Messenger are delighted to renew our longtime affiliation with Northern Virginia's only professional baseball team," said Bruce Potter, Regional Publisher of Media General Northern Virginia Community Newspapers. "We encourage everyone in the community to support the Potomac Nationals by attending their games and reading about the team in our newspapers."
On April 12, Electrical Alliance will be sponsoring a job fair that will take place for three hours from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., when gates open for that night's baseball game. Various companies will have tables set up outside of G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium and will be collecting resumes and applications. This gives P-Nats fans a chance to network as well as find employment opportunities around the area, whether they are looking for full or part time work.
"The Potomac Nationals are excited about starting something new this year as another stepping stone to become more involved within the community by helping local job seekers find employment in the area," said General Manager Jonathan Griffith.
The weekend will wrap up with "Be a Donor Day" on April 13, sponsored by Washington Regional Transplant Community. The WRTC encourages people to register to become an organ, eye and tissue donor and in doing so, "give the gift of life." April 13 will also be the first of five designated "Reading Days" where students who have participated in Uncle Slam's Reading Program can turn in their bookmarks for two free tickets as well as join Uncle Slam on the field for a special Reading Parade to honor their commitment to reading.
Along with sponsoring the Designated Driver Program, Busch Gardens will also be sponsoring a Family Fun Card Night. The first of four of these nights will be on April 19, and there will be a "Lucky Row of the game" contest announced and an on-field presentation of two Fun Cards for the winners.
On Sunday, April 20, the Potomac Nationals will be giving away Team Photos sponsored by Goetz Printing. P-Nats' players will sign autographs for fans on the field prior to the game. Families can also bring their dogs to the ballpark for Dog Day. Admission for dogs will be one dollar and with all proceeds donated to a local animal charity. The day is filled with dog-themed games and contests, entertainment provided by some of our area's most talented dogs, and presentations by area businesses that cater to dogs.
The Potomac Nationals will be announcing a new giveaway schedule each day this week for each month of the season. Then throughout the following week, they will be announcing their 2008 daily promotions.
Season tickets and ticket packages for the upcoming 2008 season are on sale now and single-game tickets will go on sale on Monday, March 24th, starting at 10:00 a.m. For more information, call the Nationals ticket office at (703) 590-2311 ext. 215. The P-Nats kick off the 2008 season on the road against the Salem Avalanche on April 4 and celebrate Opening Day at Pfitzner Stadium on April 8 against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.
