Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, announced that Bucking B Cattle Company, who produced the Bull Riding Championships at CONSOL Energy Park last September, was named the 2007 Producer of the Year. In addition, the 2007 Bull Riding Championship held at the Washington ballpark was named the SEBRA's (Southern Extreme Bull Riding Association) Event of the Year.

Bucking B Cattle Company and the Wild Things transform the baseball diamond at CONSOL Energy Park into a completely different venue for a bull ride. A crew of workmen descends on the field to lay plastic, lumber, and thousands of pounds of dirt over the infield. "I'll never forget the first year we did this," joked John Swiatek, managing partner of the Washington Wild Things. "Our operations director, Steve Zavacky was beside himself watching the field being transformed. He was dreading the damage he thought would occur ‘to his field' as a result. But the damage ended up being manageable, especially since the bull riding is the final event of the season."

Bull riding fans and baseball fans, alike, have found both of the Bull Riding Championship events at CONSOL Energy Park to be entertaining. The 2007 event sold out.

"What's really neat is how the whole ballpark becomes a festival atmosphere," added Swiatek. "Between the exotic animal show, the mechanical bull ride, the calf roping, greased pig contest, and the ‘mutton bustin' everyone had a great time....it's hard to believe it's a baseball park and not a rodeo arena at a county fair! I knew the event was a success when I heard our field crew actually refer to the event as one of the coolest things we ever did!"

The Southern Extreme Bull Riding Association was established in 1994 in Archdale, North Carolina. According to Humps N Horns magazine, it is one of the oldest, continuously operated bull riding associations in existence.

SEBRA was founded on the principle that quality is more important than quantity. The focus of the founding management was to provide an organization for cowboys to compete on fair ground against honest bucking bulls. Only top stock contractors and producers are selected to sanction SEBRA events. The professionalism of the productions can be seen in the selection of the contract acts, the quality of the bull fighters and in the efficiency of the back-pen operations.

Bucking B Cattle Company has hosted two championship bull rides at CONSOL Energy Park - one in the fall of 2006 and one in the fall of 2007. Dejon, Gordon, and the Wild Things are in the process of planning a 2008 event.
