PORT HURON, Mich. - Two members of the Port Huron Icehawks have received International Hockey League Player of the Week honors for the week ending Sunday, December 3, the league announced Monday.
Left wing Tab Lardner was named the National City Forward of the Week and goaltender Marty Magers was awarded Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week honors.
Lardner won Forward of the Week honors for the second consecutive week and is the third Icehawk to capture the honors during the 2007-08 campaign.
The left wing finished the weekend with two goals and one assist. On Friday he assisted on a game winning goal from defenseman Joe Markusen in overtime versus the Fort Wayne Komets. Saturday he notched two third period goals in a 5-4 rally over Flint, including the game winner, a shorthanded goal with just one minute and 51 seconds left to play.
Lardner is currently riding an eight game streak for points. He is tied with teammate Jamie Carroll for first place in the league for scoring with 21 points.
Magers, who spent the previous week on IR, needed just one game last weekend to garner league honors. He picked up a win on Friday, posting 27 saves and a save percentage of .964 in a 2-1 overtime victory over Fort Wayne. The netminder is 4-3-0-0 so far this season, with 220 saves, a goals against average of 2.84 and a save percentage of .909.
