
IHL names weekly award winners

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Port Huron left wing Tab Lardner has been named the National City IHL Forward of the Week, Muskegon defenseman Philippe Plante has been named the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week, Bloomington right wing Brett Holmberg has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week, and Port Huron goaltender Marty Magers has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, December 2nd, 2007.
For the second straight week, Lardner came up big for the Icehawks. He scored two goals and assisted on one, bringing his total to 21 points for the season. Lardner's 21 points currently ties him for first in the IHL in scoring with teammate Jamie Carroll and Flint's Jordan Fox. The 27-year old Edmonton, Alberta native finished the week with a plus/minus rating of plus-4.
Other players nominated for the National City IHL Forward of the Week include: Bloomington right wing Don Parsons, Flint forward John DiPace, Fort Wayne center Colin Chaulk, Kalamazoo right wing Tyler Willis and Muskegon center Billy Collins.
Plante earned points in both games played last week by the Fury. He dished out one assist in the loss to Bloomington Friday night, and had two helpers the next night as the Fury beat the K-Wings 6-4. The Greenfield Park, Ontario native is currently tied for second among defensemen in scoring with 14 points. He also leads defenseman in power play goals scored with four on the season.
Other defenseman nominated for the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week include: Bloomington's Cory Laylin, Flint's Brock Wilson, Fort Wayne's Brandon Warner, Kalamazoo's Florian Iberer and Port Huron's Joe Markusen.
Holmberg also was dishing out the assists for the PrairieThunder last week. He had one assist in the win at Muskegon Friday, which was on Bloomington's first shorthanded goal of the season. He had two more assist Saturday in the victory over Fort Wayne. The 21-year old Sherwood Park, Alberta native assisted on the eventual game winner, scored by teammate Jarrett Roberston. Holmberg had a plus/minus rating of plus-2 for the week.
Other players nominated for the Aquafina Rookie of the Week include: Flint defenseman Brock Wilson, Fort Wayne right wing Luciano Aquino, Kalamazoo center Travis Granbois, Muskegon right wing Dan Riedel and Port Huron right wing Jamie Carroll.
Magers only needed one game this week to earn the weekly honor. He played in the Icehawks overtime contest in Fort Wayne Friday night. The Chicago, Illinois native only allowed one goal against in the 61 minutes he played. He had a save percentage of .964 for the game with a total of 27 saves. Magers has won his last two starts in net, posting a 4-3-0-0 record so far this season.
Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Derek Dolson, Flint's Eric Marvin, Fort Wayne's Kevin Reiter, Kalamazoo's Jeremy Symington and Muskegon's Issac Reichmuth.
