PrairieThunder signs 6-foot-7 Ewasko

Bloomington PrairieThunder coach Derek Booth added size and versatility to his roster Tuesday with the signing of Jeff Ewasko, who has played as a forward on offense and as a defenseman during his seven-year pro career.

The 6-foot-7, 235-pound Ewasko has played the last two seasons with the Odessa Jackalopes of the CHL where he played 112 games, scoring 20 goals with 22 assists for 42 points. He also had 581 penalty minutes.

Ewasko, a native of Sherwood Park, Alberta began his pro career with the Hampton Roads Admirals in 1997. He also has played with Louisville in the ECHL, Long Beach in the WCHL along with Adirondack, Richmond and Rockford in the UHL.

The left-handed shooting Ewasko, who has been known as "an enforcer" during his career, played one season in Europe for the Basingstoke Bison before joining Odessa for the 2005-06 season.

"Jeff is the type of player we have strived to sign this season because he has size and skill," said Booth of the 30-year-old Ewasko. "He gives us versatility because he has played positions on offense and defense.

"He put up solid scoring numbers for a defenseman, which is something we were looking for. His style of play should fit in nicely in the International Hockey League."

Booth also announced he has added rookies Brent Clarke, Andrew Sharp and Rene George to the PrairieThunder preseason roster bringing the number of players under contract to 16. Booth anticipates having 24 players in preseason training camp when it begins Oct. 8.

The PrairieThunder opens the regular season Oct. 20 at Flint. Bloomington's first home game is Oct. 26 at 7:05 p.m. against the Fort Wayne Komets at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

Season-tickets for PrairieThunder home games are on sale and priced at $560 for the Club section; $460 for premium seats (rows A and B); $380 for general seating (rows C through V) and $325 for upper level (rows W, X, Y and Z, excluding the bar rail).
