Staten Island Yankees News Release
The Staten Island Yankees defeated the Auburn Doubledays by a score of 6-5. The home crowd enjoyed an exciting game as the Baby Bombers were victorious in walk-off fashion.
The Lake Monsters were first to get on the board, scoring one run in the second inning. Garrett Bass led off the inning with a single and moved over to third after a stolen base and a deep fly ball. Bass then scored on a ground out by Sean Rooney.
The Baby Bombers came back to tie the game in the fourth inning. Taylor Holiday singled to start the inning. He switched spots with Damon Sublett who reached on a fielder's choice. In the next at bat, Braedyn Pruitt doubled on a line drive to deep right field, scoring Sublett.
The Yankees took the lead in the sixth inning, taking advantage of some Vermont miscues to score four runs. The Bombers loaded the bases on a single by Pruitt, a walk by Gil and a fielding error by Daniel Lyons that allowed Austin Krum to reach base. Pruitt scored on a ground out by DJ Hollingsworth. In the next at bat, Chris Raber was walked to load the bases once again. Justin Snyder then singled to left field, scoring Gil and Krum. Raber added the final run of the inning when he scored on a passed ball, giving the Baby Bombers a 5-1 lead.
Vermont rallied in ninth inning and was able to tie the game. Two walks and a fielding error by Jose Gil loaded the bases. Daniel Lyons was then walked to score Brandon Whiting. Garrett Bass lined a double to center, scoring Jake Rogers and Mark Gildea and cutting the Yankees lead to 5-4. Daniel Lyons then scored on a single by Aaron Seuss as Vermont erased the Yankees four run lead.
The Bombers, however, fought back in the bottom of the ninth inning. A lead off double by Justin Snyder and a fielding error by Ryan Harrison forced the Lake Monsters to intentionally walk Damon Sublett and load the bases. Braedyn Pruitt was then walked on four straight pitches as the Yankees walked their way to a victory.
Zach McAllister came out firing as he had another strong start. McAllister ended the night allowing only three hits, one run and four walks while striking out five batters in 5.0 innings pitched. Jason Kiley couldn't get the save for the Yankees, but got the win after a little support from his teammates. Kiley allowed two hits, two runs (zero earned) and one walk in his one inning of work.
The Baby Bombers hit the road for their next series as they travel to Mahoning Valley to take on the Scrappers. The Yankees next home game will be Friday, July 20th at 7:00 p.m. Season ticket, group and single game ticket information is available on the web at www.siyanks.com, by calling 718-720-9265 or visiting the Richmond County Bank Ballpark box office between 9am-5pm Monday through Friday.
