Riptide Aim To Continue Success At Home

CARSON, CALIFORNIA - Friday, June 22, 2007 - The Los Angeles Riptide (3-2) of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) will look to build on the momentum of their 14-13 victory at San Francisco last weekend as they host the Chicago Machine (1-3) at The Home Depot Center on Saturday, June 23 at 5:00 p.m. (PT).

RIPTIDE VS. CHICAGO IN 2007: The Riptide opened the 2007 regular season with a 20-14 win over the Chicago Machine at Toyota Park in Chicago on May 19. Former Riptide attackman/Bud Light MVP Andrew Combs led the Riptide with five goals, Sean Lindsay (Syracuse '04) led the Riptide with seven points (4 goals, 1 two-point goal, 2 assists and 1 shorthanded goal) and goaltender Mickey Jarboe (Navy '00) finished with 21 saves as Los Angeles rebounded from an early two-goal deficit to post their fourth victory in four all-time games against the Machine.

RIPTIDE'S LAST GAME RECAP (JUNE 16 AT SAN FRANCISCO): Bud Light MVP/attackman Wes Green (Adelphi '06) collected five goals, including the game-winner with 10 seconds remaining, and attackman Michael Watson (Virginia '97) also posted five goals for the Los Angeles Riptide as they fought to a thrilling 14-13 victory over the San Francisco Dragons in front of a crowd of 3,564 at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco on Saturday afternoon. The Dragons struck first in the opening quarter and took an early 2-0 lead, but the Riptide quickly tied the game with goals from Green and midfielder Sean Lindsay (Syracuse '04). From there, the Riptide dominated the rest of the quarter and assembled a 7-3 lead. Watson collected the only two Riptide goals scored in the second quarter to allow the team to hold onto a 9-8 lead at halftime. The Riptide and the Dragons each scored two goals in the third quarter, and the two teams exchanged the lead several times during the final quarter of play. Attackman/midfielder Lorne Smith (Princeton '99) equalized the game with his power play tally at 5:54 and the score stayed deadlocked until Green put the Riptide ahead 14-13 with his fifth goal at 14:50, which proved to be the eventual game-winner. Riptide goalie Mickey Jarboe (Navy '00) faced 29 shots on goal and made 17 saves to earn his third win of the season.

CHICAGO'S LAST GAME RECAP (JUNE 16 AT NEW JERSEY): Midfielder Chris Unterstein scored four goals and added two assists as the New Jersey Pride snapped a four-game losing streak with a 21-13 victory over the Chicago Machine at Yurcak Field. Midfielder Kevin Leveille led the Machine with five goals and two assists in the losing effort.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The Riptide are undefeated (4-0) all-time against Chicago...Attackman Michael Watson has at least one goal in all five Riptide games this season...Attackman/midfielder Spencer Ford continues to lead the league in assists with 18...The Riptide, with a record of 3-2 heading into this weekend, have been at or above the .500 mark this entire season.
