Evansville Otters News Release

March 12, 2007--The Evansville Otters have added their fourth former Stony Brook University player by signing Jon Lewis, the Seawolves' all-time leader in career wins and innings pitched.

In four years at Stony Brook, Lewis compiled a 25-18 mark and struck out 322. He was named the rookie of the year in the America East Conference in 2002, when he was 9-3. The Florida Marlins drafted the Queens, N.Y., native in the 16th round of the 2005 amateur draft, making him the 486th overall pick. He began the 2005 season with the Marlins' rookie league team in the Gulf Coast League before being promoted to Class A Jamestown in July. In 19 relief appearances for the Jammers, Lewis was 1-2 with a 5.85 ERA. He was released by Florida after spring training in 2006.

Lewis joins former Stony Brook teammates Matt Restivo, Tom Pennino and Jon Pasieka on Evansville's 2007 preseason roster.

The Otters have also signed outfielder Tim Auty of Sydney, Australia. The Seattle Mariners signed Auty as a 17-year-old free agent in 2003 after seeing him in the MLB/ABF Academy in Queensland. He returned to the Academy in 2004 before playing for the Mariners' Arizona League rookie team in 2005. In 29 games, Auty hit .352 and drove in 22 runs. He finished the 2005 season with Seattle's Triple A team in Tacoma of the Pacific Coast League.

Auty participated in the Philadelphia Phillies' extended spring training in 2006.

The addition of Lewis and Auty brings to 16 the number of new players on Evansville's 2007 roster.
