COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Junior Blue Jackets scored six goals for the second time this season and for the first time in franchise history shutout an opponent, in a 6-0 victory over the Des Moines Buccaneers Saturday at Nationwide Arena.
Ohio (9-33-7, 25 pts.) goaltender Corson Cramer earned the club's first shutout by a goaltender when he stopped all 36 shots he faced in the first of a two-game series with Des Moines (24-17-6, 54 pts.). Since joining the team, Cramer has a 1.40 goals-against average in five games.
The Junior Blue Jackets got scoring from multiple sources as well, with all six goals coming from a different player and in different ways.
In the second 20 minutes, Ohio put up four goals, with the first and eventual game winner coming on an unassisted goal from defenseman Chris Reed. Reed carried the puck from his own end, through the neutral zone and then lifted a backhanded shot over the shoulder of Buccaneers netminder Matt Dalton.
Other second period goals came from center Eric Rex, right wing Charles Brockett (1-2-3) and left wing Danny Hobbs, who netted a power-play goal. In the third, center Tim Hall (1-1-2) scored and assistant captain Sean McCauley completed the scoring with an unassisted goal.
The Junior Blue Jackets play Sunday against the Des Moines Buccaneers following the Ohio High School State Hockey Championship game. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
