Georgia Force Complete Day One of Training Camp

February 10, 2007 - Arena Football League (AFL) Georgia Force

FLOWERY BRANCH, GA- The Georgia Force began their journey to ArenaBowl XXI in New Orleans as they stepped on the field for the first time in 2007.

The Force took the field at 8:30 a.m. for their first practice of training camp in preparation for the 2007 season, which begins March 3 at Arizona. Following the special teams portion of practice the team worked on position drills. The wide receivers had a good start to the day during the one-on-one portion of practice, as WRs Chris Jackson, Derek Lee and Matt Thomas all scored on deep passes from QB Chris Greisen. The defensive line, led by Jermaine Smith, Ernest Allen and Mike Sutton demonstrated the ability to apply pressure to the quarterback during the team segment of practice. DBs Willie Gary, David Crocker and Rober' Freeman all broke up passes throughout the morning practice. Freeman and DB Troy Graham each tallied an interception during team drills.

In the afternoon, both the offense and the defense performed well. OL Fitu Tu'ua highlighted the afternoon practice when he hauled in a screen pass from QB Ryan Vena and rumbled 30 yards for the score. Lee sprung WR Kevin McKenzie for a long touchdown with a key block down field after McKenzie caught a screen pass from Greisen.

"It was great to see this group of guys on the field today," said Director of Football Operations Jim Kubiak. "I thought the team looked focused and practiced with intensity in both sessions. We have a lot of things to work on and correct, but it was a solid start to the season."

Thursday, February 15 and Friday, February 16, the Force will host combined workouts with the Nashville Kats at their Flowery Branch practice facility. Additional information pertaining to the workout will be released next week.
