Wings Soar Past Titans 16-11

UNIONDALE, NY - The Philadelphia Wings won their second straight game, 16-11, in their first ever meeting against the New York Titans at Nassau County Coliseum in Uniondale, NY. Philadelphia found their firepower as three players scored three goals or more during the contest including rookie Athan Iannucci and Sean Greenhalgh, both with four, and Dan Marohl with three. The Wings face the Toronto Rock in their next game tomorrow night at the Wachovia Center at 7:30 p.m.

"Our offense finally got their feet under them tonight," said Wings' General Manager and Head Coach Lindsay Sanderson. "The challenge for this young team is to keep our focus and rest and prepare for Toronto tomorrow."

The Wings had a strong start shutting out New York 5-0 (Iannucci, Greenhalgh, Shawn Nadelen, Greenhalgh, Dan Marohl) in the first quarter of play with four of the goals being scored in the first 4:48 of the game.

New York got their first goal of the night when Roy Colsey scored at 4:08 into the second quarter. The teams traded power play goals, one by the Wings' Marohl and the following by the Titans' Pat Maddalena. Marohl recorded the hat-trick as did Iannucci as he scored two straight. Philadelphia's Keith Cromwell scored his first of the game at 11:38 to give the Wings a 10-2 lead at the half.

The Wings Greenhalgh got his hat trick just :09 into the third with a feed straight off the face-off by Iannucci. Kyle Wailes scored the Wings' 12th goal of the night just :29 seconds later. New York then pulled goaltender Curtis Palidwor in favor of back-up Nick Schroeder. The Titans got back on the board with four straight goals (Brian Tower, Mundorf - 2, Blake Miller) to cut the Wings lead in half, but Philadelphia's Marc Morley scored with :51 in the quarter to put the Wings up 13-6.

New York scored two power play goals to start the fourth (Mike McLellan, Casey Powell). Second-year forward Greenhalgh then got his fourth tally of the night with a power play goal at 3:38. The Titan's Maddalena got his second of the night followed by the Wings' Wailes second of the night. New York's McLellan scored his second goal of the game, which caused the Wings to pull goaltender Matt Roik for Jay Preece at 5:40. The Wings and Titans each scored once more (Iannucci - PHL, Maddalena - NY) before the end of the contest with the Wings ending up with a 16-11 win.

Leading the Wings in scoring were Sean Greenhalgh with eight points (4G, 4A), Athan Iannucci with seven points (4G, 3A), Dan Marohl with seven points (3G, 4A), Kyle Wailes with three points (2G, 1A), and Keith Cromwell, Marc Morley and Shawn Nadelen each with two points (1G, 1A). Goaltender Matt Roik made 29 saves on the night while Jay Preece made four.

Leading the Titans in scoring were Pat Maddalena with five points (3G, 2A), Roy Colsey with five points (1G, 4A), Brendan Mundorf with three points (2G, 1A), Casey Powell with three points (1G, 2A), Mike McLellan with two goals, and Blake Miller and Brian Tower each with one goal. Goaltender Curtis Palidwor had 18 saves on the night and Nick Schroeder had 21.
