Orlando Predators News Release

ORLANDO, Fla. (January 17) -- When the Orlando Predators signed former Philadelphia Eagle lineman Greg Jefferson in December, the five-year veteran had more NFL experience than any player in the Predators 17-year history. That distinction lasted less than a month.

On Wednesday, the Predators announced that they had come to terms with former Pro Bowl tight end Dwayne Carswell on a one-year contract. Carswell is a veteran of 12 NFL seasons, having played in 163 career games - making 82 career starts -- at guard, tackle and tight end. He spent his entire NFL career with the Denver Broncos, playing on both the Super Bowl XXXIII and Super Bowl XXXII championship teams.

Carswell (6-3, 290) has 192 career receptions for 1,707 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Broncos. His top offensive seasons came in 2000-2001, as he combined for 83 receptions for 794 yards and seven touchdowns. He went to the Pro Bowl in 2001.

In 2005, Carswell became the first NFL offensive lineman in the Super Bowl era (since 1966) to grab two scoring passes in a single game - accomplishing that against Jacksonville on Oct. 2. An outstanding special teams player, Carswell has 31 tackles with four fumble recoveries and a forced fumble during his career.

Best known as a blocker, Carswell was a regular on a Denver offensive line that helped the Broncos finish in the top five in the NFL in rushing nine times in 11 seasons from 1995-2005. A durable player, Carswell missed just one game in nine seasons from 1996-2004.

He went to camp with the Broncos in 2006, where he was waived in the pre-season.

A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Carswell was a standout tight end at Liberty University. He finished his career with 65 receptions for 511 yards and two touchdowns. He was a standout performer at Temple High School and was voted one of Jacksonville's Top 100 All-Time Athletes in 1999.

In addition to signing Carswell, the Predators reached a one-year agreement with veteran WR/LB Clif Dell. A fan favorite, Dell opened last season on injured reserve with strained knee ligaments. He returned to the lineup in Week 3 against Philadelphia, catching two passes for 42 yards and a touchdown. One week later, he sustained a season-ending injury (torn ACL) in the second quarter. He still played a huge role in the Storm win, catching a 16-yard touchdown pass and returning a fumbled kickoff return four-yards for another score.

Dell has had an uncanny ability to find the end zone in his Arena Football League career. He has 83 regular season touchdowns on just 312 receptions for 3,943 yards. He has added 13 post-season touchdowns on 36 receptions. Dell has more than 4,800 career all-purpose yards.

Defensively, he has 10 fumble recoveries and four interceptions to go with 109 career tackles, 13 pass defenses, three tackles-for-loss, and two forced fumbles.

Dell has displayed versatility in his career, playing all three wide receiver positions, "jack" linebacker, cornerback and back-up quarterback. He has excelled on special teams and owns championship rings with both Orlando (2000) and Tampa Bay (2003).

"Clif is one of those players who seems to make two or three huge plays every game," Predators head coach Jay Gruden said. "He was once to another great start before getting injured last year. Hopefully he'll come back at 100% this year."
