Dinkins a local product of Western Pennsylvania (Schenley High School) who has produced record-setting seasons at the Professional and Collegiate level. Dinkins spent the last two seasons as the Quarterback of the Erie Freeze of the American Indoor Football League and established a reputation as one of the premier players in the AIFL.
Dinkins was the AIFL MVP in 2005, setting league records for rushing yards (564) and touchdowns (30) while throwing for 1,721 yards and 38 touchdowns. Prior to joining Erie in 2005, Dinkins played for the Buffalo Bills (NFL) for two seasons and spent the 2003 season playing in NFL Europe for the Amsterdam Admirals.
Dinkins was one of the top quarterbacks in the nation during his career at Morehead State University. He was the only individual in I-AA history to pass for at least 1,000 yards and rush for at least 1,000 yards in the same season on three different occasions (1998, 1999 and 2000). Dinkins held the distinction of being the only player in I-AA history to rush for more than 3,000 yards and pass for more than 5,000 yards in a career. Dinkins broke or tied 19 Morehead State records during his three years playing and finished his collegiate career with 5,572 passing yards and 53 touchdowns and 3,765 rushing yards with 63 rushing touchdowns.
Dinkins has a cousin Darnell Dinkins who is currently on the Cleveland Browns Roster. The Pittsburgh RiverRats will make their AIFL debut in February 2007 with seven home games at the Rostraver Ice Garden.
Head Coach Shawn Liotta on Dinkins Signing:
"We have brought the most dynamic player in the AIFL back home to Pittsburgh. I am thrilled that we were able to sign Dave as our first player in Franchise history, he is a proven winner on and off the field, who has NFL and Professional Indoor experience. I look forward to having Dave as our triggerman leading the outstanding talent that we will sign in the next few months. Dave Dinkins will pave the way for our offense as we drive towards the AIFL Championship in 2007."
