Eastern League announces weekly award winners

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the Major League Baseball Advanced Media selections for the Eastern League Pitcher and Player of the Week for the week ending June 25th:

Portland Sea Dogs outfielder Brandon Moss has been named the Eastern League's Player of the Week for the week ending June 25th. Moss, a native of Monroe, Georgia, had an excellent week for the Sea Dogs, hitting .478 (11-for-23) with four doubles, one triple, one home run, seven runs scored, five RBI, three walks and a .870 slugging percentage in six games. The 6'0", 180 lb. slugger, who is ranked second in the league in doubles (22) and fourth in RBI (46), had at least one hit in each of the games he played in last week and enters this week with a seven-game hitting streak. The 22-year old has been on a tear in the month of June, batting .377 with six doubles and five homers in 20 games. Brandon, who was ranked by Baseball America as the 14th best prospect in the Red Sox organization entering the season, was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the eighth round of the June 2002 draft out of the Loganville High School in Georgia.

Tyler Clippard, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Trenton Thunder, is the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 25th. The 21-year old made a pair of starts for the Thunder last week and was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA. Clippard, a native of Trinity, Florida, earned a win in his first start of the week, striking out six batters and walking two while giving up just three hits in seven shutout innings of work against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at Waterfront Park last Monday. In his second appearance of the week the 6'4", 170 lb. hurler, who was ranked by Baseball America as the 10th best prospect in the Yankees organization entering the season, limited Connecticut to four hits and struck out six batters in 4.1 innings of work at Waterfront Park on Sunday. Tyler was selected by the New York Yankees in the ninth round of the June 2003 draft out of J.W. Mitchell High School in Florida.
