San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Former Miami Dolphins defensive lineman VAN BROWN signed a three-year contract with the two-time ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats, the club announced today.

The team made room on its roster by placing 11-year AFL veteran lineman Chuck Reed on injured reserve with an arthritic right knee.

Brown (6-6, 273), the younger brother of veteran National Football League linebacker Chad Brown, signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in April 2005, but was released prior to the start of the season.

The former junior college All-American began his collegiate career at Pasadena City College in 2000 prior transferring to USC. He played two seasons with the Trojans recording 11 tackles in 17 games before playing his final collegiate season at NAIA Northwestern Oklahoma State.

A 2004 honorable mention NAIA Football All-American, Brown registered 52 tackles, 8.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles in 10 games during his final college season with the Rangers.

Earlier in the week the SaberCats waived lineman Jeff Ruffin, who played in just five games during his two-year stint with San Jose.

Following their record five-game road trip, the SaberCats finally return home to host Western Division rival Los Angeles on Sunday, March 12 at 3:00 p.m. Season and group tickets for the season are available by contacting a sales representative at (408) 573-5577. Single game tickets are available and can be purchased through any Northern California Ticketmaster outlet, online at ticketmaster.com or at the HP Pavilion box office.
