Los Angeles Avengers News Release
LOS ANGELES - "A-Team" dancers Brittany, Kristin, Lynisha and Shea on Friday, March 10, took part in the California Department of Health Services and the Fitness Challenge Foundation press conference to announce a landmark National Public Health Week (April 3-9) event that will rally Californians to build healthier communities, eat healthy and be physically active to reduce childhood obesity.
The "A-Team" dancers and fitness experts from Bally Total Fitness led a group of children in a "Be Fit Family" physical activity demonstration.
"Physical fitness and proper nutrition is the key for a long and healthy life," Kristin said.
"The Kids Fitness Challenge is going to be a great event for these kids."
Approximately 10,000 children will participate in the Kids Fitness Challenge, one of the largest kids-focused, non-competitive 5K events in State history, on April 8 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Several top State and local officials will join NFL Legend Jerry Rice, Olympic athletes, Ryan Benson (winner of NBC's The Biggest Loser) and emcee Colleen Williams to encourage and lead participants. This event will kick off Kids Fitness Challenge events in other cities across the country.
Physical inactivity and poor nutrition are one of the major public health challenges facing California and the rest of the nation. California is currently experiencing an obesity epidemic with one-third of 9- to 11-year-old children at risk for or already overweight and more than 73 percent of youth unfit.

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. (Pacific) and the game will be televised on KNBC Channel 4 (Ted Robinson, Charles Davis, Raj Mathai). The contest also can be heard on AM 1150 (Larry Kahn, Troy West).
