Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC -- Charleston RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols has announced that GEICO, a leader in the automobile insurance industry, will be the exclusive sponsor of the club's popular Friday Night Fireworks for the 2006 season.
While that is good news for the fans, there's a twist to the traditional post-fireworks departure from the park to one's mode of transportation.
As the RiverDogs celebrate the Chinese Year of the Dog throughout the season, fortune cookies - that staple of after-dinner treats at traditional Chinese restaurants - will be distributed to fans as they depart Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park after the popular Friday Night Fireworks.
According to Echols, specially-made fortunes that are wrapped inside the baked cookie delight will deliver unique messages from both the RiverDogs and GEICO.
"We are extremely pleased to have GEICO associated once again with the Charleston RiverDogs," said Echols. "With Charlie the RiverDog and GEICO's Gecko working together with a crystal ball to construct the fortunes, there's no telling what will be in those cookies when our fans leave the ballpark after the Friday Night Fireworks."
Echols would not elaborate on the content of the messages but stated they would be unique.
"We are excited to continue our long-term relationship with the Charleston RiverDogs and are happy to be in the ball park," said Tony Kolgaklis, owner of the Charleston-area GEICO agency. "GEICO remains eager to be involved in sports venues and to stay in front of sports fans."
There are nine Friday Night Fireworks slated this season with the first scheduled for the April 7 game against the Augusta GreenJackets.
