Wizards Acquire Allocation from Real Salt Lake in Exchange for Chris Klein

KANSAS CITY, MO (Wednesday, January 23, 2006) - Kansas City Wizards General Manager Curt Johnson announced today the team has acquired a partial allocation from Real Salt Lake in exchange for midfielder Chris Klein. The Wizards also send a Youth International slot to Salt Lake as part of the deal for the 2006 season.

"I want to thank Chris on behalf of our entire organization for his eight seasons in Kansas City," said Johnson. "He is a very talented player and an even better person. We wish he and his family all the best."

Klein, 30, has spent eight seasons in Kansas City after being selected by the Wizards with the 4th overall pick in the 1998 College Draft. He has played in 200 regular season matches, including 183 starts, and has scored 39 goals while adding 45 assists.

The Wizards will report for physicals on Tuesday, January 31st and begin preseason training on Wednesday, February 1st. The 2006 MLS regular season will kickoff on Saturday, April 1st when the Wizards host Eastern Conference rivals the Columbus Crew at Arrowhead Stadium with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. CT. The Wizards complete 2006 schedule is expected to be released later this month.
