Brother and Sister to play for Los Angeles

Shawn Blattenberger, President of the Los Angeles Aftershock of the American Basketball Association, announced today that Fabrizio Mendiola, brother of Women's player Giuliana Mendiola, signed with the ABA Aftershock Thursday in Los Angeles.

The signing, along with the teams signing of Giuliana, might be the first brother and sister tandem to play professional basketball on the same team. Fabrizio, who played his college basketball at MWAC Champion Tacoma Community College, averaging 16 points a game in one season, earning first team all conference honors. Mendiola is "proud to play in the ABA, with my sister, and with the Aftershock."

Blattenberger added "Fab has incredible basketball smarts, and is sneaky quick to go along with his smooth jumper." And "apparently the family breeds smart basketball players, because both he and his sister have incredible basketball awareness and intelligence." Mendiola set Orange County High School shooting records by making 11 three-pointers in one game. Mendiola went on to say that "the whole family is excited and cant wait for Saturday, especially now that he gets to play side by side with Giuliana."

Los Angeles begins its 2005-2006 season Saturday night at Los Angeles College Southwest at 7pm against the Orange County Buzz. The game can be heard at www.laaftershock.com with the pre-game show starting at 6:30. Tickets for Saturdays game are free on a first come first served basis.
