Cats advance to championship series with 7-5 win

Jordan Foster's seventh-inning, two-run double was the game winner as the Cats reached the Central League championship series with a 7-5 win in Game 5 Saturday night in Pensacola.

With Fort Worth leading 1-0 going to the bottom of the first, Rafael Alvarez tied the game as he hit a solo homer to left. Pensacola got two more solo shots in the third inning as Juan Rocha and Trino Aguilar each went deep to make it 3-1 Pensacola.

The Pelicans added a run in the fourth on an Aguilar single scoring Nestor Smith.

The Cats cut the lead to 4-3 in the fifth when Terrell Merriman walked and Tony Mota slugged a two-run home run to right, his first of the series.

Pensacola got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fifth when Carlos Mendoza's sacrifice fly brought home Brian Lentz making the score 5-3 Pensacola.

Green led off the Cats' seventh inning with an infield single. Starter Santos Hernandez was removed from the game and Bubba Dobson was brought in to pitch. Dobson allowed a single to Merriman and a walked Mota to load the bases.

The Pelicans called to the bullpen again and brought in Edwar Ramirez who struck out Adolfo but then permitted a bases-loaded walk to John Allen and a two-run double by Foster to give the Cats the lead.

Adolfo gave the Cats an insurance run in the top of the ninth when he smacked an opposite-field, solo homer to make it 7-5 Fort Worth.

Dan Grybash who thre 1 1/3 of scorless relief, earned the victory. Juan Figueroa notched his second save of the series as he retired all four batters he faced.

Santos Hernandez allowed four runs on six hits in six innings of work. Dobson, who faced just two batters in the game, took the loss after allowing two runs.
