Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(Lancaster, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks and Arizona Diamondbacks have announced that right handed pitcher Russ Ortiz will pitch for the JetHawks on Wednesday night in Lancaster against the Inland Empire 66ers.
Ortiz will be making a rehabilitation start in an effort to return to the Diamondbacks' starting rotation from the rib injury he suffered in May.
The former 20-game winner signed a free agent contract over the winter with the Diamondbacks after two solid seasons with the Atlanta Braves, compiling a record of 36-15. He led the National League in 2003 with a 21-7 record. Before the beginning of the 2005 season, Ortiz was 103-60 with a 4.00 ERA. He has also won 14 or more games in a season at the Major Leagues level in six straight years.
The Southern California native went to Montclair Prep High School in Van Nuys, before attending the University of Oklahoma.
While a member of the San Francisco Giants minor league system, Ortiz pitched in San Jose for parts of the 1995 and 1996 seasons.
Great seats are available for this and all remaining games in the 2005 season at the Clear Channel Stadium ticket office, by calling the JetHawks at (661) 726-5400, or you can order them on-line on the team's official website www.jethawks.com.
