Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., May 11, 2005) â The Long Island Ducks team officials today announced that the contract of catcher Joe Depastino has been purchased by the Toronto Blue Jays. Depastino will report to the team's AAA affiliate in Syracuse.
"It's always tough to lose a quality player," said Ducks manager Don McCormack. "Joe was off to a great start and we wish him luck with Toronto."
Depastino joins Syracuse after ranking second in the Atlantic League in batting average (.455) and on base percentage (.556). He led the Ducks in slugging percentage (.727), was tied for the team lead in runs (4) and was on a six-game hitting streak when his contract was purchased. Depastino is the first Duck inked to an organizational deal in 2005.
The Long Island Ducks, 2004 Atlantic League champions, play their home games at Citibank Park and are in their sixth season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. They have filled their ballpark to over 100 percent capacity in each of their first five seasons and are one of the most successful minor league franchises in the country.
