Anaheim Storm Fall Short in Overtime Against Minnesota

Anaheim, CA (April 9, 2005) - The Anaheim Storm led tonight's game against the Minnesota Swarm for more than three quarters with goaltender Matt Roik playing a strong defensive game. He held the Swarm to just nine goals before Minnesota's Ryan Ward (5g) tied the game 10-10 with only 2:50 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The Storm took the lead back, 11-10, when Assistant Captain Casey Powell (2g, 1a) scored his second goal of the evening with just 50 seconds remaining in regulation. The Swarm answered with a fifth goal by Ward. He tied the game again with less than two seconds on the clock and sent them into overtime.

The second overtime of the season for both teams, they battled for more than seven minutes before Jamie Taylor (2g, 3a) put the ball passed Roik to end it, 12-11, Minnesota.

Other Storm contributors were Peter Morgan (3g, 3a), Scott Stewart (2g, 3a) and Ryan Powell (4a). Roik, both the Overall and Defensive Player of the Week last week, saved 38 of 50 shots on goal.

The Swarm were led by Ward (5g), Taylor (2g, 3a) and Sean Pollock (2g, 4a). Goaltender Matt Disher recorded the win with 30 saves in just over 67 minutes of play.

Next weekend, the Storm play their final two games of the season in a home-and-home series against the Arizona Sting. The Storm host the Sting in Anaheim Friday night and then travel to Arizona for a Saturday night match-up.
